Botox Q & A

What is Botox?

Botox is a popular injectable cosmetic treatment that minimizes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Dr. Safvi uses Botox to reduce the appearance of horizontal forehead lines, the “11” lines between your eyebrows, and the smile lines around your eyes.

Botox is FDA-approved, safe, and provides subtle, natural-looking results. Dr. Safvi has extensive training and experience as a board-certified physician who can deliver highly customized Botox injections to help you achieve your aesthetic goals.

How does Botox work?

Botox is a neurotoxin derived from Clostridium botulinum. While this might sound dangerous, Botox is extremely safe, especially in the hands of an expert like Dr. Safvi. When he injects Botox into your face, it temporarily paralyzes the tiny facial muscles that allow you to smile or frown. As these muscles stop moving, the skin covering them also relaxes, which allows your fine lines and wrinkles to fade away.

The effects of Botox are temporary. However, you can have regular Botox injections to maintain your youthful appearance. Results tend to last longer after regular Botox injections, so you can often go longer between touch-up appointments.

What should I expect during a Botox treatment?

Before prescribing Botox, Dr. Safvii reviews your medical history and examines the skin around your eyes and forehead to identify the best injection sites to reduce your wrinkles.

A Botox appointment lasts 10-20 minutes, depending on how many injections you need. You don’t need any anesthesia since the injections are virtually painless. You might feel a mild sting or pinch, but most patients tolerate the treatment well.

How should I take care of my skin after having Botox?

You don’t need any downtime to recover after a Botox treatment. You can even have Botox during your lunch break. You should avoid strenuous physical activity for 24 hours after your injections. As always, you should wear sunscreen and take care to limit your time in the sun, as UV rays accelerate the aging process in your skin.
