Leg Pain Q & A

What are the symptoms of leg pain?

Leg pain takes many forms, depending on the cause. Common symptoms include:

  • Aches
  • Cramps
  • Numbness
  • Throbbing
  • Tingling

At Advanced Vein Treatment and Cosmetic Center, Dr. Safvi diagnoses the cause of leg pain and starts treatment before it worsens. During an evaluation, he uses ultrasound technology to check for anomalies in blood flow.

What type of leg pain might I experience?

Dr. Safvi's patients come to him seeking treatment for all types of leg pain, including:

Tired legs

Poor circulation, varicose veins, overuse, muscle cramps, and hormone imbalance can all cause tired legs.

Leg cramping

Sometimes called a Charley Horse, leg cramps occur when your leg muscle goes into spasm, causing sharp, intense pain that lasts several minutes. Muscle fatigue and dehydration are the most common causes.

Restless legs syndrome (RLS)

RLS causes an uncomfortable feeling in your legs that makes you want to fidget or shake your leg. People describe it as a creeping, throbbing, aching, or twitching sensation. Lifestyle changes and medication help relieve symptoms.

Leg swelling

Inflammation and fluid build-up cause swollen legs. Fluid can build-up because of problems with the lymphatic or venous circulation system, wearing tight clothes, or being inactive. Inflammation can occur because of injury or an inflammatory medical disorder.

Skin changes

Vein disease can cause poor circulation in the legs, leading to skin discoloration. The most common cause is a condition called venous stasis dermatitis.

These are just some examples of symptoms that constitute leg pain, but there are many more. If you experience any kind of leg pain, have Dr. Safvi take a look.

When should I see a doctor about leg pain?

You won't always need medical help for leg pain. Sometimes, rest is the best option. See Dr. Safvi straight away if you experience any of the following:

  • An unusually pale or cool leg
  • Signs of infection
  • Calf pain following a long car or plane trip
  • Leg swelling with breathing problems
  • Unusual, unexplained leg symptoms

You should also schedule an office visit if you experience symptoms such as painful varicose veins, pain walking, or any swelling.

Never ignore leg pain and hope it goes away. If leg pain persists after a few days, call Advanced Vein Treatment and Cosmetic Center to make an appointment or use the online booking portal.
